Spring 2012 Trend: The Power of Peplum

Peplum is back in more ways than one this spring. Defined as a little starchy overskirt at the waist, peplum brings a sassy flair to an otherwise standard silhouette. At the New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 runway shows, designers such as Jason Wu, Rodarte and Vera Wang opted to showcase the flirty garment detail in various incarnations. Peplum can be a casual detail on a top like that of Olivia Palermo’s Tibi Jacket below, a ladylike touch such as Blake Lively in Jason Wu for Target, edgy chic like Rooney Mara in Givenchy or vintage Hollywood glamour like that of Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton. With peplum, the possibilities are endless.
