Sunscreen Tips to Keep You Safe this Season

While protecting your skin with a coat of sunscreen may seem like a no brainer, we all too often see sun-dwelling folks applying the product in a haphazard manner, sometimes rendering the lotion ineffective. We were curious to see how the pros go about avoiding harmful rays, so we looked to Allure magazine for the answer. One top mistake (which we are guilty of) is slathering on sunscreen after donning clothes or a bathing suit. Dermatologist Jeannette Graf says, “Working around your clothes will make you more likely to miss a spot.” Instead apply a shot glass worth of sunscreen all over your body, take a teaspoon full to your face, as the SPF in makeup is not enough protection, and then put on clothing. Allow yourself a solid 20 minutes for the product to take hold before going out in the sun. Another key spot to cover is your hair part, which you should protect with a misting sunscreen or a hat.
