The Best Quotes from Nora Ephron

Almost all women, and some good-natured men, have seen at least one of Nora Ephron’s romantic comedies. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker, who was best known for her movies “Sleepless in Seattle,” “When Harry Met Sally…” and “Silkwood,” passed away Tuesday at the age of 71, causing our hearts to break a little. In thinking of the prolific Ephron, we cannot help but reminisce over her amazing lines both on and off the big screen. Below is a sampling of our favorite lines from the writer:

– “I have to murder and dismember a crustacean.” — Amy Adams in “Julie & Julia”

– “The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don’t know what the hell they’re doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self.” — Tom Hanks in “You’ve Got Mail”

– “I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” — Billy Crystal to Meg Ryan in “When Harry Met Sally”

– “Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.” —Nora Ephron in a 1996 commencement speech at Wellesley College
