A spot of tea may be just what the doctor ordered. Besides the yum factor, tea can be a great way to prevent Alzheimer’s disease, hypertension and even cancer. According to O Magazine, the following four teas contain properties that can improve your health:
Darjeeling: More than half the world population has a pathogen called H. pylori in their system that, in some cases, can lead to ulcers, gastritis and gastric cancer. The Indian darjeeling tea steeped for 5 minutes (sans milk) has the greatest effect to inhibit this pathogen.
Oolong: In a study, drinking a half cup to two and a half cups of Chinese oolong tea daily can cut a person’s risk of hypertension by almost half.
Black: Antioxidant compounds found in black tea can protect the brain from forming plaques known to contribute to the development and progression of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Yerba Maté: Research that is currently being conducted shows that the South American yerba maté tea may potentially be able to ward off colon cancer. In a 2011 study, scientists added the herbal tea to petri dishes containing colon cancer cells, which self-destructed when mixed with yerba maté.
