What To Look For When Buying Antiques

160781_OriginalAntique items are a great way to add a personal and historic touch to your home. Unlike collectibles and vintage goods, an item must be at least 100 years old to be dubbed an antique. In order to get the best buys, it is paramount to look at construction of the item, how well it has been cared for and to gather past information on the piece. If possible, when buying a high-value or rare antique item, ask the seller for provenance, which is proof of where the antique originally came from. When buying original wood antiques, look for the original maker’s mark and note the difference between handcrafted and machine-made pieces.
